18 September 1990, I closed on my house in Massapequa, New York through the mortgage arm at Citibank/Citicorp. From 1990 to 1995, I made mortgage payments on a bi-weekly schedule with no missed payments during that time. In 1995, I requested from Citibank a ‘Statement of Payment History,’ to show my balance on the mortgage, as I had not received any mortgage statements since closing on the house. I was told on two different occasions: (by phone and in person) that a document would be mailed to me. I never received the requested the payment history statement, to this day. In not receiving a history from Citibank, I began to pay monthly mortgage payments instead of the bi-weekly. On 8 October 1998, I unexpectly received a foreclosure notice via mail from Bank of America. I was stunned to receive this notice, because I had closed on my house mortgage with Citibank. Without a single payment missed since September 1990, yet here I am with a distressful letter of foreclosure on my home. I was told by a Citibank representative to make contact with the law office of Manton, Sweeney, Gallo, Reich and Bolz LLP for further information on this matter. From the day I walked through the doors of the Manton, Sweeney, Gallo, Reich and Bolz law office in October 1998 to today…I have fought tooth and nail to keep that office from illegally taking my house, my home, my sanctuary. Once the symbol of the area’s booming commercial real-estate market, the tower now represents its widespread failure. After the housing bubble burst, millions of homes have been foreclosed in the country. President Barack Obama’s programmes have not helped nearly the number of people he said they would, while Mitt Romney, the Republican front-runner, says the answer is to let the market bottom out.
